Frequently Asked Questions
Do you really raise your own beef?
Yes! All our cattle are born and raised by us. We keep records of each individual cow and calf (tracked by ear tags), so we know exactly what goes into their bodies.
Are your cattle grass-fed or grain-fed?
Our cattle are brought up consuming pasture. When it is time for them to be finished out, they are switched to a diet in which they are lightly supplemented with simple, whole grain. We do not use any feeds containing additives, preservatives, or long lists of ingredients. Our goal is to provide beef with the health benefits of being grass-fed but with the taste and marbling of grain-fed.
How is your beef packaged?
All our beef is vacuum sealed, with the exception of ground beef, which comes in 1-pound tubes.
How is your meat delivered?
We provide delivery of our boxes within 25 miles of Gainesville, TX for a minimal fee. Deliveries are typically on Tuesdays and/or Saturdays. Once you place your order, someone will contact you to set up a convenient delivery window.
You also have the option to pickup for free.
Do you ship meat outside of the Gainesville, TX area?
No, not currently. We hope to offer shipping as an option in the future.
How is your beef different from the grocery store beef?
The vast majority of beef in grocery stores comes from cattle finished in feedlots. These cattle are typically given growth hormone implants, feed additives, and certain antibiotics to accelerate their growth and increase their efficiency. Beef found in grocery stores can also contain meat from many different cattle in the same package, thereby increasing the risk of disease contamination. There is no way to track the origin of the cattle, to know what medication cattle received, or to know what the cattle have been fed. Although grocery store meat is inspected and safe to consume, we believe directly sourcing your beef gives you more peace of mind about feeding yourself and your family in the healthiest way possible. Additionally, the taste is exceptionally more flavorful!
Do I have to buy my beef in a pre-made box or bundle?
We have tailored beef bundles to create a more user-friendly way to purchase beef in 15-30 pound increments. We hope you will find this to be a convenient way to purchase beef to fill your freezer. Although you are not required to purchase meat through a bundle, bundles offer the best pricing and always qualify for free delivery. If there is an additional cut of meat that you would like to purchase but is not included in your bundle, feel free to add it to your order!
How much freezer space do I need?
All of our beef bundles are designed to fit in a standard-size freezer. You will need at least 1-3 cubic feet of free freezer space to house one of our bundles. Please check your freezer specifications and make sure that the freezer is free of other large items that might take up space.
Do you ever sell beef halves, wholes, or quarters?
Yes, from time to time we do sell bulk beef. If you are interested in purchasing a quarter, half, or whole beef, please email luckycattlecompany@gmail.com to check availability.
Do you ever have cuts in stock that aren’t listed for sale online?
Sometimes we do have a few cuts that are not listed for sale online. Feel free to reach out to inquire whether the cut you desire is available.
